Thomas Kuehnel

Thomas R. "Keno" Kuehnel, 89, of Jerseyville, died January 7, 2019 at 1:40 p.m. at Jerseyville Manor.

Tom was born on August 7, 1929, in Granite City, Illinois, son of William "Bill" and Viola (Grover) Kuehnel, both deceased. He married Marcella Myers on December 16, 1950 in Piggott, Arkansas.

Tom served as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force from February 7, 1947 and was Honorably Discharged on December 30, 1949. He also worked at the Olin Corp. until his retirement after 41 years in 1991. Through the efforts of Tom, Packing Foreman at Olin Corp. of East Alton, Olin donated a heavy-duty utility drill-press to the Illinois Valley Rehabilitation Center in Jerseyville. He also served on the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the City of Jerseyville for 20 years. He was also a member of the Jerseyville Moose Lodge and the Jerseyville American Legion Post #492.

Tom enjoyed spending time with his wife, kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. He loved going fishing, riding his bike, walking down the railroad tracks, putting together puzzles, and just piddling in his garage. He also enjoyed doing woodworking. He was most known for the picture frames he created for many people.

Survivors include his wife Marcella Kuehnel; children: Diana Scoggins of Jerseyville, Connie & Mike Collins of Jerseyville, daughter-in-law: Patricia Kuehnel of Alton; six grandchildren: Kenneth & Michelle Dooley, Katie & Rob Merritt, Laura Beth Kuehnel, Tabitha & Jacob Randolph, Richard "Richie" Scoggins, Marci Collins along with seven great-grandchildren; his siblings: Edith Scott of Gibson City; Opal and James ?"iggs" Kallal of Jerseyville; Jenny and Reverend Clyde Myers of Cottage Hills; Bill "TwoGun" and Sandy Kuehnel of Jerseyville; Jim and Madeline Kuehnel of Jerseyville; Jake Kuehnel of Jerseyville; Rob and Norma Kuehnel of Jerseyville, and a sister-in-law: Mary Kuehnel of Alton.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son: Richard "Dick" Kuehnel, son-in-law: Randy Scoggins, brothers: Eddie & Harold "Eugene" Kuehnel, sister: Helen Bounds.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Alexander & Gubser Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held on January 10, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Alexander & Gubser Funeral Home. Reverend Clyde Shaw will be officiating.

Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by Jerseyville American Legion Post # 492.

Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
