James Hughes

James Mac 'Jim' Hughes, 68, died Sunday, October 13, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Creve Couer, Missouri from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident three weeks prior.

He was born on August 17, 1951 in Dixon, Illinois to the late Willard and Constance 'Connie' (LeFaivre) Hughes and grew up, along with his siblings, in Grafton.

Jim possessed a strong work ethic, and worked various jobs throughout his life including working as a welder at the Boat Works in Grafton; a boilermaker; as well as a maintenance worker for the City of Grafton, prior to his retirement.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing. Jim enjoyed surrounding himself with the company of others, and his outgoing personality afforded him many lasting friendships throughout the years.

He enlisted with the United States Army, serving our country honorably as a Vietnam War Veteran. Jim was proud of his military service and spent a great deal of his time giving back to fellow Veterans, serving as a member of the Honor Guard for the Grafton American Legion Post #648 as well as countless other volunteer efforts for not only the Legion, but various other military organizations throughout the years.

Surviving are three brothers and their spouses, George and Mary LeFaivre of Philo, IL; Jeff Hughes of Grafton and Jon and Donna Hughes of Grafton; two sisters and brothers in-law, Cindy and Art Harris of Fieldon and Donna and Chad Weisman of Huntingburg, IN; two sisters in-law, Margie Hughes of Kane and Becky Hughes of Fieldon; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Judith Snider and three brothers, Christopher Hughes, Evans 'Ebb' Hughes and Kevin Hughes.

Per his wishes, cremation rights have been accorded.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at the Grafton American Legion with Eddie Calvin officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to given to HHC Scout Plt. Veterans Association.
