Dan Kennedy, aged 75, peacefully departed this world at 2:21p on January 15, 2024, surrounded by the comfort of his residence. Born on October 1, 1948, in Alton, he was the cherished son of the late Robert and Norma (Royse) Kennedy. On September 15, 1984, he joined in matrimony with Brenda (Ferguson) Chappell in Alton.

Dan spent many dedicated years at Frito Lay before embracing a well-deserved retirement.

Dan's surviving family members include his son, Kelly Kennedy (Shon) of Jerseyville, and daughter, Marcy Kennedy Anderson (Peter) of Chicago. He also shared a special bond with his niece Emilie “Mili” Pinski (Tom) of Bethalto, whom he considered more like a daughter. Johnathan, the son of his best friend Tom Dehner, held a place of deep familial connection in Dan's heart. Three grandchildren, Dennis Hartman, Brendan Kennedy, and Alyssa Kennedy, all residing in Jerseyville. Dan is also fondly remembered by numerous special nieces and nephews, along with a wide circle of extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Becky Kennedy.

Dan's life was marked by an insatiable love for travel. While Daytona Beach's biker week and the majestic Colorado Rockies held a special place in his heart, he discovered newfound wonders in South Dakota, Yellowstone, and the Grand Tetons during a memorable visit in May 2023.

A man with an extraordinary gift of conversation, Dan's ability to engage with anyone on any topic was his hallmark. Known for striking up conversations with strangers, especially those adorned in Harley shirts, he effortlessly connected with people, turning strangers into friends. His friendly nature once led him to forge a lasting friendship with brothers from Canada during a chance encounter in Daytona Beach, resulting in an invitation to spend a memorable week with them in Canada.

Campground acquaintances quickly became close friends and many fun times were spent with Greg Briner and Mike Barton. Family and friends were paramount to Dan, including a strong connection with Johnny Rain and Harry Munson that dates back to kindergarten. He possessed a wealth of stories that he shared with enthusiasm, making every gathering a joyous occasion. To honor Dan's vibrant life, a time of sharing will commence at 1 pm on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the Alton/Wood River Sportsman’s Club.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Wanda United Methodist Church, 4813 Wanda Road, Roxana, IL 62084. Contributions will be used to enhance the accessibility of the Heritage House.
