Nancy Jane Meffert, age 86 of Greenville, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois.
A celebration of life service for Nancy will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 21, 2025, at the Greenville First Christian Church with Dee Armes officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Memorials in lieu of flowers and plants are asked to be made to the “Alzheimer’s Association” or the “Brain Injury Association of America”. Please mail donations to Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home, 203 W. Oak, Greenville, IL 62246 or they will also be available during the visitation at the church.
Nancy, the daughter of Aurthur and Clara (Esterlein) Bohnenstiehl, was born January 9, 1939, in Highland, Illinois. Nancy was preceded in death by her siblings: James (Ruth) Bohnenstiehl, Walter (Wilma) Bohnenstiehl, Elizabeth (Harold) Tegtmeyer, Norma (Robert) Kuennemann, and Elaine (James) Ruhl.
Nancy attended Holy Cross Lutheran School in Collinsville, transferred to Troy High School and later graduated from Edwardsville High School. Nancy entered the workforce as a telephone operator in Edwardsville before starting her family and becoming a homemaker and bookkeeper for “Ziegler Construction.” Nancy owned her own restaurant in Highland “Nancy’s Deli and Desserts” that was famously popular with the locals.
Nancy and her first husband Kenneth Ziegler were married on November 3, 1956, and began their family in Troy and later moved with their four children to rural Highland. She married Eugene Meffert on October 21, 1989. Nancy and Eugene moved to Greenville where they enjoyed retirement and became members of the Greenville First Christian Church. Nancy enjoyed being involved in the community, delivering Meals on Wheels, helping the Greenville Senior’s Center, or just spending time with family and friends.
