Stanley G. "Stan" Phillips, 85, formerly of Godfrey, Illinois passed away on April 13, 2025 at his home in Carmel, Indiana. He was born on July 9, 1939 in Hamburg, Illinois and was the eldest son of Paul Stanley Phillips and Helena Gertrude (Crowder) Phillips.
In 1957 he graduated from Alton Senior High School and married the former Judith L. (Judy) Lenhardt on October 25, 1958 in Alton, Illinois and they shared 55 happy years of marriage until her death on November 14, 2013.
During his lifetime, he served in the United States Air Force as a clerk in the reserves for six years. He worked as a machine foreman for Owens Illinois in Alton, Illinois and in Brockport, N.Y. from 1961-1968, and retired from BP Amoco in Wood River, Illinois as a shift foreman after 26 years of employment from 1969-1995. For many years he was a member of the Alton Wood River Sportsman's Club, the Masonic Lodge and Main Street United Methodist Church in Alton, Illinois.
Together, Stan and Judy had two children, a son, Greg Phillips (Rae Jean: deceased) of Cottleville, MO and a daughter, Rhonda (Doug) Steinacher of Noblesville, Indiana. They enjoyed four grandsons together, Karl Phillips of Acworth, GA, Kurt Phillips (deceased), Matthew Steinacher (Katie) of Noblesville, Indiana and Andrew Steinacher (Laura Crawford) of Carmel, Indiana. He was thrilled to be able to enjoy becoming a great-grandpa to Daniel and Thomas Steinacher and Rosemary Crawford.
Stan was a proud son, brother, husband, father, brother-in-law, father-in-law, grandpa and great-grandpa. He loved his family and will be missed by those who loved him. He had a good sense of humor, was a positive person, even through tough times, and was always dependable when you needed to count on him.
He enjoyed many years of spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren; fishing and boating in Northern Wisconsin every summer for 18 years, attending St. Louis Rams Football games as a season ticket holder in St. Louis for 19 years and being a part of the Superbowl frenzy at the Dome the year the St. Louis Rams won the Superbowl. He recently became an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, watching every game and enjoying their Super Bowl victories.
One of the greatest highlights of his life was watching his grandsons’ become adults and succeed in life. Watching them get married and having children of their own. He was always interested in what was happening in their lives and how they were doing.
At the age of 80, he made the bold move to relocate to Indiana to be near family. He moved to The Stratford a senior living community in Carmel, Indiana where he made many new friends and was very active in the community for the last four and a half years. He had a great end of life experience there going to new places and doing new things he would have never done. It was a great last chapter for him. He will be missed.
Stan is survived by his son, daughter and son-in-law, three grandsons and their wives; a sister-in-law Nancy Phillips of Peoria, Illinois, a brother-in-law Tom Lenhardt and his wife Anna of Westmont, Illinois and a sister-in-law, Delphine (Babe) Lenhardt of Carrollton, Texas along with his nieces and a nephew.
