Thomas Morgan

Thomas David Morgan, 87, of Greenville, Illinois, passed away at his home on April 22, 2025.

Visitation will be held at Greenville Free Methodist Church in Greenville, Illinois, on May 24, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will also be held at Greenville Free Methodist Church on May 25, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

Tom was born on January 29, 1938, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas, to Doris L. and Clarence B. Morgan, and was raised in Manhattan. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Greenville College in 1960, a Master of Arts in Education from Eastern Illinois University in 1961, and a PhD from the University of Illinois in 1974.

On August 28, 1960, he married Betty Jane Delamarter. They had four children, Richard H. (Lisa) Morgan, Valarie Morgan (Jim) Scott, Victoria Morgan (Mark) McFerran, and Douglas (Dee) Morgan. Tom and Betty were blessed with ten grandchildren who became the apple of their grandparent’s eye. Above all else he truly loved his wife Betty, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Tom was preceded in death by his only brother Stephen K. Morgan, and his parents.

Tom began his professional career as a coach and administrator at Malone College, Canton, Ohio in 1961. His basketball coach, John Strahl, invited Tom to join the Physical Education and Coaching staff at Greenville College, Greenville, Illinois the fall of 1967. In the fall of 1974, he began serving in various administrative positions under six different Presidents until he retired in 2003.

Tom’s hobbies included a life-long physical fitness program, golfing, numerous performances in theatrical productions like Fiddler on the Roof, Smoke on the Mountain and as an original member of a singing group called Norm and the Nomads. He was a life-long member of the Free Methodist Church. Tom also served on numerous boards including Bond County Board of Education, Bond County Public Building Commission and the Lions Club.
