Carl Morin

Bethalto 05/01/2025

Carl Allen Morin, 83, of Bethalto, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at his residence.

He was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on December 4, 1941, the son of Carl Arthur and Helen Marie (Jefferson) Morin. Carl married the love of his life, Dianne Y. Gregory at The Church of the Little Flower in Springfield, IL, on September 23, 1967. She preceded him in death on April 28, 2022 after 55 years of marriage.

Carl was a United States National Guard Veteran. He then went on to work at Beneficial Finance for 36 years, 9 months, and 1 day, retiring in December of 1997 as a field auditor. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto. Carl was a 4th degree knight in the Bethalto Knights of Columbus and loved cooking at K of C chicken dinners and winning every K of C chili cook-off.

Carl was the definition of letting the good times roll. He took pride in his pool and cars and never let them go a day without being cleaned. His favorite part of summer was the Fourth of July when his sister, Judy, and her family came down for the weekend to stay and celebrate. If his pool was open, that’s where you knew to find him any day, at any time. He loved spending time hanging out in the backyard with his neighbors, especially cherished friends whom he considered family, Paula and Gerry. Summers will never be the same without his shenanigans.

Carl never met a stranger. You could always count on him to crack a joke and make you laugh before he even knew your name. Carl was the world’s best storyteller and would tell stories from his younger days until you were crying from laughing so hard. Some of Carl’s greatest memories are with Dianne, his daughter, Nicole “Coco” and his son, Greg, camping at Rend Lake and going on cruises. He never missed a Friday lunch at Fast Eddie’s Bon Air with Dianne. Every holiday was celebrated with a Roma’s pizza and an intense game of dice.

In his later years, you could find him rolling through the neighborhood on his scooter or driving one of his sports cars through town. Most importantly, Carl loved his family with everything he had. He hardly ever went a day without hanging out with his best friend- his son, Greg. He was so proud of his two granddaughters, Emily and Megan, and did not go a day without checking in on them and cheering them on through every part of life. Carl was so deeply loved by all of his friends and family and will be missed greatly by all who knew him.

Survivors include his son, Greg Morin of Bethalto; granddaughters, Emily Morin and Megan Morin; his sister, Judy (Leo) Romanotto of Springfield, IL; and several nieces and nephews, all of Springfield, IL.

Along with his parents, and wife, Dianne, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nicole "Coco" Morin.
