
April K. Deatherage, 76, of Marine, IL, born Friday, July 23, 1948, in East St. Louis, IL and passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, IL.
April was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Marine, IL. She enjoyed food and was a great chef, especially when she was making polish dishes and her famous pies. April was a talented artist and was able to restore the statuary in some of the local Catholic Churches. She was a giving, selfless, nurturing mother, and friend to all she met. She certainly followed this proverb, “Where There Is a Will, There is a Way,” encouraging people to overcome obstacles with determination and find a way to achieve their goals. She loved and supported her children and grandchildren in their many activities.
She is preceded in death by her son, Kyle Deatherage; a daughter, Karen Deatherage; her parents, Casmir and Rose Anna (nee Penn) Karpowicz; and her brother, Eddie Karpowicz.
Surviving are her children, Barry (Kelley) Deatherage of Highland, IL, Kenneth (Ashleigh) Deatherage of St. Jacob, IL, Anna (Nick) Rapp of Vacaville, CA; daughter-in-law, Sarah Steele of Marine, IL; grandchildren, Chase Schultz, Cameron, Kaylee, Dawson, Dayton and Camden Deatherage, Lyla Rapp, Mia Steele, and Archer Rapp; one great-grandson, Atlas Schultz; a brother, Kenneth Karpowicz of Fenton, MO; and sisters, Diane (Gary) Wright of Hillsboro, MO, Linda (Gary) Weiss of Fenton, MO and Rosie Prado of Arnold, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and many grand dogs.

Funeral mass will be held 11 am on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at St. Elizabeth’s Church with Fr. John Beveridge officiating. Interment will be in Marine Cemetery, Marine, IL
