Brian Keith Schenewerk, 54, of Freeburg, IL, passed away unexpectedly at his home Sunday, June 8, 2025. Born August 19, 1970, Brian was raised in Freeburg, where he developed a deep appreciation for service, hard work, and family.
Upon graduating high school, Brian answered the call to serve, enlisting in the United States Army. He dedicated four years to military service, achieving the rank of Specialist (SPC E4) and serving with the 556th Military Police Company (MP CO) USAREUR E7. Stationed at Fort Dix, NJ, he held the designation 95B10 Military Police and was awarded numerous honors, including the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and multiple Marksmanship Badges recognizing his expertise in grenades, pistols, and rifles.
Following his military service, Brian pursued a career in law enforcement, attending the Police Academy and serving as a Corrections Officer at Menard Correctional Center. His professional journey later led him to entrepreneurship with Specs-a-Wreck, managing a bakery route, and working in Asset Protection for Walmart. He also excelled in leadership roles, serving as the Loss Prevention District Manager at Home Depot and later working at Wiegman Hubbell in Freeburg.
In 2006, Brian met the love of his life, Tracy West, and they married in 2008. He cherished their life together, taking great pride in building their home from the ground up. Brian had a keen eye for detail, overseeing every aspect of construction. He later expanded his efforts to create a pasture for their horse Dakota and even a pool for raccoons. In recent years, he found joy in early mornings with meeting the McGeezers at McDonald's, exploring the stock market, and planning a new life overseas with Tracy.
Brian’s sudden passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of his loved ones.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 16 years, Tracy (West) Schenewerk; his parents, Warren and Donna (Jung) Schenewerk; his brother, Christopher (Angela) Schenewerk; two nephews, Kyle Schenewerk and Ryan (Elle) Schenewerk; his cherished four-legged companions; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
