Janet Oeltjen

Quincy, IL 06/06/2025

Janet Ruth Oeltjen, nee Greenlee, 77, of Quincy, IL, born August 21, 1947, in East St. Louis, IL, died Friday, June 6, 2025, at Blessing Hospital, Quincy, IL.

Janet worked as a registered nurse for 52 years, before her retirement. She loved sewing quilts, crafting, watching HGTV, baking banana bread, making wreaths and flower arrangements, decorating for the holidays, particularly Christmas, plants, shopping, reading, and birds. She had a sweet tooth and could always be found with a glass of Diet Pepsi. She was an avid St. Louis Blues hockey and Cardinal’s baseball fan. Above all Janet enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and her dog, Tessa. She was a beautiful, funny and giving person — there was nothing she wouldn’t do to help those in need and the people she loved.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Virgil Oeltjen, whom she married on June 30, 1978, and who died on April 1, 2024; her beloved sister, Jackie Skaar; two brothers, James and Kenneth Greenlee; and her parents, Elmer R. and Ruth L., nee Richards, Greenlee.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Leanne (George) Hausdorf; a stepdaughter, Sheila (Chad) Nolan; a stepson, Brian (Jill) Oeltjen; seven grandsons, Andrew (Summer) Hausdorf, Geordan (Madison) Hausdorf, Braedyn (Brandie) Hausdorf, Hunter Oeltjen, Zane Oeltjen, Mitchell (Paytin) Nolan, and Logan (Kassie) Mueth; two great-granddaughters, Sutton Mueth and Ila Hausdorf; two brothers, Jerald (Dorothy) Greenlee, and Gary (Annette) Greenlee; and many dear brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
