George Paul Farris, 81, passed away at 1:49 a.m., Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Jersey Community Hospital.
He was born on December 28, 1943, in Jerseyville, Illinois, the son of the late Leslie William and Hester Edna (Dennis) Farris.
George married the love of his life, Geraldean Kaye Kelley, on December 27, 1961, in Jerseyville. Together they built a life rooted in hard work, family, and unwavering loyalty. Their marriage was blessed with six children, and though they faced both life’s greatest joys and its deepest heartbreaks - including the loss of their son, Travis, and daughter, Crystal - they walked through it all side by side. Geraldean preceded him in death on September 25, 2014.
From a young age, George understood the value of hard work. At just 13 years old, he began what would become a lifelong career in the logging industry, owning and operating his own business, G&R Logging, until his retirement at the age of 65. His work wasn’t just a job - it was a passion, a livelihood, and a legacy built with his own two hands.
George was truly one of a kind. He was brave, strong-willed, and fiercely loyal to those he loved. He carried himself with pride and never hesitated to stand up for his family. His strength, determination, and grit will be remembered by all who knew him.
Surviving are his children, Kevin (Tracy) Farris of Otterville, Randy (Lori) Farris of Jerseyville, Mark Farris of Litchfield, and Roy (Ruth) Farris of Grafton; a son-in-law, Kyle Trask of Otterville; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He is also survived by his siblings, Leslie “Willie” Farris, Marie Dziurwitz, Carl Stark, Edna Farris, and Donna Peterson.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Travis Eugene Farris on June 27, 1981; a daughter, Crystal Lynn Trask on January 9, 2017; three sisters, Sarah and Mary Farris in infancy, and Angeletta Farris; as well as a brother, David Farris.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday.
Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Lung Association.
