Ronald Calvin Stevens, 68, died at 4:00 a.m., Sunday, February 24, 2013 at the Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Davidson County, Tennessee on Aug. 7, 1944 one of three sons born to the late Taz Carson & Minnie Belle (Haynes) Stevens.
Ron began working at Olin Corp. in East Alton for a period of time, and eventually branched out onto his own, operating Ron's Janitorial & Carpet Cleaning Service for many years.
He was a loyal and dedicated member of the Gospel Assembly Church in Jerseyville, where he served in numerous capacities, including serving as the Band Director and well as singing in the men's quartet. He was musically gifted and was currently serving as an instructor at Halpin Music Company in Alton, where he taught the five string banjo and drums.
He married the former Belva Hope Kitson on May 8, 1970 at the Gospel Assembly Church in Jerseyville, and the two have been blessed with nearly 43 years of a wonderful life.
Surviving are his wife, Belva Stevens of Jerseyville; a daughter & son in law, Rhonda & David Eckhoff of Cadet, Mo.; two children from a previous marriage, Ronald Dean and Beth Ann; a brother, Jack Randall Stevens of Nashville, Tn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant grandson, David Michael Eckhoff; a brother, Gary Taz Stevens; and his father in law & mother in law, William & Rosalee Kitson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Visitation will continue from 10 am. Friday until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. ,at the Gospel Assembly Church in Jerseyville. Rev. Clyde Shaw will officiate.
Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
Memorials may be given to the Gospel Assembly Church in Jerseyville.
