Gertrude L. “Gertie” Wasser, nee Starms, 82, of Swansea, IL, born April 23, 1943, in Belleville, IL, died Monday, June 23, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her family.
Gertrude was a member of the Swansea Moose Lodge 1221. She enjoyed playing cards and meeting up with her friends at Cutter’s for weekly lunches. Above all, Gertie adored her family, kids, grandkids, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Ann, nee Patient, Starms and William Starms; her father, Robert Oughton; and two brothers, Lawrence and Bill Starms.
She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 61 years, Anton “Tony” Wasser, whom she married on June 27, 1964; two sons, Marshall (Dorothy) Wasser and Steven Wasser; her daughter, Karen (Gerald) Taylor; five grandchildren, Anthony Wasser, Lindsay (Lance) Wagner, and Logan, Jordan, and Rylan Taylor; a great-granddaughter, Layla Wagner; three sisters, Carol (John) Hubbard, Nancy Oughton, and Kathy Morrissey; and many dear nieces and nephews.

According to Gertrude’s wishes, cremation services were held.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Burial will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO, at a later date.
