Nicholas Katashuk, Jr., age 97, of Fairview Heights, IL, born on October 17, 1928, in Wilkes Barre, PA, died on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, IL.
Nicholas married his wife Doris on July 21, 1951 in St. Louis, MO, and they were married 64 years, before her death in 2015. A military family, they lived near Eglin Air Force Base in FL and in Casablanca, Morocco before settling near Scott Air Force Base in IL. Nicholas was a 20-year veteran in the United States Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired as Senior Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force. He went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in business administration from SIU-E and later he was a Certified Public Accountant. He was a CPA working as an Assistant Comptroller for the City of East St. Louis and later for the Army Corps of Engineers. Nicholas enjoyed time at the casinos, bingo and boating with family. He looked forward to Sunday mass and seeing his church family. Nicholas was dearly loved and will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris A. Katashuk, nee Clouser; his parents, Nicholas and Helen, nee Messarch Katashuk and his sisters, Alberta Space, Dolores Ames and Lorraine Sekera.
He is survived by his children, Deborah Zarzecki of Collinsville, IL, Susan Cox of St. Peters, MO, and Don (Vickie) Katashuk of Florissant, MO; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Lance) Korsun, Tracy Hotz, Lee (Lara) Zarzecki, Keith (Katie) Katashuk, Lisa (Joe) Reuther, and Jessica (Danny)Wesche; 8 great grandchildren, Kylee Davis, Sofia Korsun, Jaxon Reuther, Ayo Zarzecki, Winnie Zarzecki, Anastasia Blei, Colby Katashuk, and Atlas Wesche; his brother, Robert Katashuk of Buffalo, NY; and his sisters-in-law, Dolores Gericke and Marlene Clouser. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic School.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.
A funeral procession will leave Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fairview Heights, IL. Interment will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
