William Flowers

Glen Carbon 06/22/2025

William Joseph “Bill” Flowers, 81, of Glen Carbon, Illinois passed away at 6:53 a.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at his home.

He was born May 12, 1944, in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of the late Joe and Helen (Warner) Flowers.

Bill married the love of his life, Patricia L. “Pat” (Hall) Flowers at both St. Stephens Episcopal Church in St. Louis and a traditional catholic wedding at Mt. Carmel Church in St. Louis. They celebrated their 50 years of marriage by renewing their vows by Elvis on a beautiful beach in Pensacola, Florida. They have years of many wonderful memories with family and friends.

Bill’s sense of humor will never be forgotten. He was a faithful member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Glen Carbon, an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, and took pride in having a clean car and a freshly mowed lawn. He and Pat loved being around the water and spent their summers at their home at Lake of the Ozarks and winters at Pensacola, Florida. He enjoyed playing baseball/softball, golfing, boating, bowling with friends, and a good tavern. He also built a vintage Model T bucket car and liked to cruise around town.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Kenneth S. Flowers of St. Louis, Steven W. and Emile Flowers of Edwardsville and William R. and D’Anna Flowers of Mokena; five grandchildren, Payton, Joseph, Avery, Rogan and Reid Flowers; a sister, Barbara Harkness of Western Springs, Illinois; a brother, Richard Flowers of St. Louis; a brother-in-law, Ed Cenatiempo of St. Louis; many nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy Cenatiempo, Jean and Jerry Long and David Harkness.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 155 N. Main Street in Glen Carbon at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, with Father Patrick Gibbons as celebrant.

A celebration of life will be held at The Wooden Nickel Pub and Grill (The Studio), 171 S. Main Street in Glen Carbon following the Mass.

Memorials may be made to EHS Tigers Baseball Boosters and may be accepted at the funeral chapel or by Venmo at EHS-Baseballboosters.
