Mary Catherine Mathews, 81 went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Hillsboro, IL.
She was born October 26, 1939 in Michael, IL, the daughter of the late Adam and Lena (Klunk) Zipprich.
She married Ralph John Mathews on June 3, 1961 at St. Michaels Church, Michael, IL. He preceded her in death in June 2020.
Mary retired from Alton School District and was devoted to her Catholic faith. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved to bake.
She is survived by four children, Charles (Dede) Mathews, Michael (Geri) Mathews, Diana (Kenny) Taylor and Judy Duniphan; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Zipprich, James Zipprich and infant Raymond Zipprich; sisters, Lucille Gotway, Helen Friedel, Marcella Gress, Dorothy Zipprich and infants Rosemary & Edna Zipprich.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from 10 am until time of service at 11 am, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River, IL. Celebrant will be Father Don Wolford. Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is in charge of arrangements.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
