Janice Kessler

Bethalto 05/23/2025

Janice Lynn Kessler, age 80, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 9:32 AM, under the care of BJC Hospice.

She was born in Harrisburg, Illinois, on July 1, 1944, to the late Kenneth and Elizabeth (Lamar) Sullivan. She married Gary D. Kessler on July 1, 1966 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Cottage Hills.

Janice was employed as a Clerk in the shipping department at Winchester in East Alton, Illinois, retiring in 2007. She was a member of the Cornerstone Church in Bethalto and a past president of the Bethalto American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 214. She loved to travel with family, walk along the ocean, tend to her garden, volunteer at Cornerstone church, and enjoy time with her family and friends. Most of all, she liked to make people smile and show everyone unconditional love. Everyday, she would find one thing to do to give back to those around her, strangers included. Janice will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her husband, Gary; three children and their spouses, Cindy (Craig) Gardner of St. Louis, MO, Jon (Ysbely) Kessler of Edmond, OK and Joe (Christine) Kessler of Brighton; five grandchildren, Jonathan Rabanal, Nathan (Brianna) Kessler, Shelby Kessler, Kieron Kessler and Daniel Kessler; two great-grandchildren, Natalie and Connell; two sisters, Cheryl (Larry) Daniels of Meadowbrook and Mary Drake of Bethalto along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Betty Kelly and Peggy Stieglitz.

Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until time of service at 3:00 pm, on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, with Pastor Erik Scottberg officiating.

Private burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials are suggested to Cornerstone Church in Bethalto for the Royal Kids Camp.
