Dax Mitchell Reno, 26, formerly of Jerseyville, was tragically taken on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Memorial Hospital in Biloxi, MS., from injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident on his way home from work.
He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on February 26, 1999, the youngest of two sons born to Gary Dean and Tonya Lynn (Settles) Reno, and considered him self so fortunate to be a part of such a close-knit and loving family.
He was a member of the Class of 2017, from Jersey Community High School, and by trade was a welder fabricator, but was so much more than that. After attending bartending school, Dax began working at The Blind Tiger in Biloxi, MS., where he had aspirations of opening his own restaurant. He quickly became known as someone who genuinely cared for his customers and co-workers, always willing to make sure that everyone around him felt cared for and safe.
Dax was so many things, and had many, many wonderful attributes that could be talked about for days, but his brother Dalton, has summed it up best with his own words.... My brother was nothing short of incredible! Most people would call him brilliant, not only in how smart he was, but in the way that he instantly lit up a room. He always wanted to know how things worked, from taking apart his first skateboard to building cars and computers. Most people would call him joyous, doing everything he could to make those around him smile and happier to have met him, even if it was just in passing. He was also, so very caring and insightful. If even he liked you just a little bit, he would move heaven and earth for you, and you didn't even have to ask or know that he was doing it. He was also witty, always quick with a remark or comeback. Humble, would also be another word to describe him, and was very down to earth and never let his ego go unchecked. He was a natural born leader, although he would be the first to downplay that analogy. He was the kind of leader that would work with people, never expecting someone to do anything and only asking you do what you could. He was honest and would never lie to you, for better or worse. He never badmouthed anyone, no matter the circumstances. He had a strong sense of duty as well as integrity. If there was a job to do, it would be done right and without fail.
Surviving are his parents, Gary and Tonya Reno of Gulfport, Ms.; brothers, Dalton Reno of Gulfport, Ms. and Daniel (Krystal) Bartley of Gulfport, Ms,; his grandfather, Paul D. Settles of Carrollton; along with many loving and caring friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jeannie Settles and Ronald Gene and Betty Jane Reno and great-grandparents, Paul and Delores Settles.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
He will be laid to rest in the Kane Cemetery.
