
Earl Ray “Pete” Wahl, 87, of West Frankfort, Illinois died Saturday, June 28, at his home. He was born April 10, 1938 in rural Greenfield to Percy and Velma (Ayres) Wahl. He married Carol Hicks November 10, 1962 in Greenfield and she survives.
Also surviving are his children, Rhonda D. (companion Larry Engle) Stephens of Carrollton, Crystal A. (Terry) Evans of Roodhouse, Cherie R. (Mark) Conway of White Hall, Terri K. (Robby) Mcgee of Roodhouse, Kent E. (Angela) Wahl of Bluffs, and a grandson that was raised in his home, David C. (Kay) Wahl, his sixteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, his siblings, Phyllis (Larry) Brogdon, Randy (Rhonda) Wahl and Stanley (Cathy) Wahl.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jeffrey Todd Wahl, a sister, Elizabeth Wahl, brothers Ronnie and Don Wahl, a grandson, Gage Wahl, and great-grandchildren, Briccen Wahl, Amelia Davis, Michael Thien and Chance Wahl.
Earl served his country in the US Army. He farmed his whole life and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed sitting in his yard watching birds and tending his flower garden. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 until 6 pm, Wednesday, July 3, 2025 at the Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield. Cremation rites will follow and a private family interment will be at Witt Cemetery in Rockbridge at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Witt Cemetery.
